Phillip E. Miller (Send e-mail) Phillip E. Miller is a partner in the firm and a registered patent attorney, practicing out of the firm's Vienna, Virginia office. In 1987, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. In 1993, he received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Kentucky, College of Law. Mr. Miller focuses his practice in the areas of chemicals and chemical processes, polymers and plastics, electronic chemicals, power generation, semiconductor manufacturing, display technologies, and optical systems and materials. Mr. Miller is a member of the District of Columbia, Ohio and Kentucky Bar Associations, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. As mentioned above, Mr. Miller is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In 1986, Mr. Miller interned with Ashland, Inc. at the company's refinery in Catlettsburg, Kentucky where he researched carbon fiber mat sizing systems and milled carbon fiber feeding systems. From 1987 to 1990, Mr. Miller was employed as a project engineer for the United States Navy at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, Maryland, where he worked as the project engineer for development of Standard Missile and Phoenix warhead production, and was trained in the design and manufacture of warheads, rocket motors, propellants and plastic bonded explosives. He also was responsible for developing hazardous material storage and hazardous waste disposal policies and procedures. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Miller developed a solo practice in Eastern Kentucky which included extensive counseling and litigation. Mr. Miller is a also a former assistant county prosecutor and an experienced trial attorney. Mr. Miller is a member of the International Trade Commission Trial Lawyers Association, the Cincinnati Bar Association and the Cincinnati Intellectual Property Law Association. He is also a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). Mr. Miller is also active in his community.
