Joseph Peter Hrutka is an associate in the firm and a registered patent attorney. In 1995, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 2001, he received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland School of Law.

Mr. Hrutka focuses his practice in the areas of mechanical and electrical systems, as well as semiconductors, telecommunications, sporting equipment, and automotive technology. His areas of interest include patent prosecution, patent validity and other opinion work, and litigation.

Mr. Hrutka is a member of the Maryland Bar Association and the District of Columbia Bar Association and is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. As mentioned above, Mr. Hrutka is also registered to practice as a patent attorney before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Hrutka developed a solo practice, representing various small inventors as they developed their respective product lines. Mr. Hrutka has also assisted in discovery in several large, complex litigations. In addition, Mr. Hrutka has practiced at several law firms, practicing primarily in the area of patent prosecution.

Before attending law school, Mr. Hrutka worked as an engineer for a Boston, Massachusetts research and development firm that specialized in metal matrix composites intended for use in aircraft.

Mr. Hrutka is also active in his community. He currently provides pro bono legal services through the Veterans Pro Bono Consortium.
